Traders Rally Late to Clip San Diego
The Chicago Traders faced a tough opponent in San Diego pitcher Bret Weingartz, but found a way to pull out the victory at San Diego Sporting Complex by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings. Weingartz went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win belonged to Bruce Shone in relief. His record improves to 4-4. Dana Berry took the loss for San Diego. Randy Weisenberg earned his 35th save in 37 tries.

Chuck Panetta, who finished 2nd in the NBL in hits with 204 in 1970, had a direct impact on the outcome. Panetta contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Chicago up, 4-3.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Panetta. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."

Chicago is now 69-63, while San Diego is 63-69.
