Empires Get Past Montreal for 4-3 Win
|
The Montreal Habitants could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Oscar Rodela into a win. Instead, the New York Empires prevailed, 4-3. Rodela threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. New York reliever Tom Duncan was the winner. His record is now 4-6. Al Johns took the loss. Today's win puts New York at 71-61, while Montreal falls to 73-58.
The decisive blow was delivered by Gary Austin in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a bases-clearing double off four-time All-Star Al Johns to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Austin. "It sure beats the alternative."
