San Diego and Chicago got after it at Union Field.

San Diego turned a good performance from starting pitcher Bret Weingartz into a 6-0 triumph over the Chicago Traders at Union Field. San Diego goes to 65-67, Chicago to 77-56.

San Diego first baseman Kent Schiffer contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the eighth. With two down, he hit a cutter to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 141st hit of the season and put the Captains ahead, 2-0.

"Bret had good arm action, good stuff," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.
