The St. Louis Explorers picked up a win at Quakers Stadium, downing the Philadelphia Quakers, 7-4. On the mound for St. Louis was right-hander Randy Birch, who played a pivotal role in the win. With the victory, the Explorers upped their record to 74-59.

St. Louis used a well-timed hit by Gary Parker to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Explorers ahead, 4-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Parker. "And not try to do too much."
