A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Washington Eagles and Los Angeles Blockbusters.

The 3-hit performance of Irv Olson, who finished 3rd in the ABL in doubles with 39 in 1961, helped the Washington Eagles beat the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 9-1. Picking up the win was Alex Fonseca. He went 8 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits. The left--hander struck out 5 and walked 2.

Ed Cook had a big 2-run double for the Eagles in the top of the second inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Dario Fontanez, who is tied for 10th in the NBL in strikeouts with 131, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 3-0.

"What a lackluster performance," lamented losing manager John Trausch.

Washington sits in 5th place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division at 63-70.
