Burros Win at Milwaukee, 5-3
|
The Denver Burros had to overcome a fine effort from Milwaukee pitcher Dan Valenti to win, 5-3, at Milwaukee Municipal Stadium. Valenti went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Picking up his 23rd save was 23-year old left-handed pitcher Rick Morton. With the win, Denver raised its record to 82-52.
Had Jim Bitting not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Bitting hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Burros.
"Every win gets us closer to our ultimate goal," said Bitting.
