The Atlanta Generals weathered a fine game by Boston left fielder Ron Anderson to upend the Terriers, 7-5, at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. Anderson was 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The save was credited to Kelly Clark, his 1st. With the win over Boston, the Generals improved to 61-72.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Gary Austin came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing Boston pitcher Roger Scherf, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Atlanta on top, 6-5.

In postgame comments, Austin said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
