Los Angeles Beats Milwaukee, 5-3
|
Starting pitcher Larry Messenger pitched well enough to help the Los Angeles Blockbusters beat the Milwaukee Dairymen, 5-3. Messenger, now 15-9, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs. Dick Berry was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 11 of 19 save opportunities.
Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Terry Steuart to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Blockbusters ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Steuart said.
The victory gives the Blockbusters a record of 68-66.
