Dairymen Lose at Home, 5-1
|
Bruce Cardenas, who won the Royal Ricketts Award in 1966, never let the Dairymen get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Burros to a win, 5-1. In 7.2 innings, Cardenas surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. After today's action, Denver sits at 81-55, while Milwaukee falls to 60-76.
David Smith went 1-3. He drove in 2 runs for Denver. The 30-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Keith Williams. It was his 49th RBI of the season.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Smith told the Denver Today.
