Win Makes Cincinnati 68-67
|
The San Diego Captains got a sterling performance from second baseman Dick Howard, but the Cincinnati Packers still prevailed, 7-4. Howard was 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Getting the save was Dave Young, his 10th. The Packers bumped their record to 68-67 with this latest triumph.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Doug Stewart was at the plate when Cincinnati scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Packers to go in front, 5-4.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Stewart, "one at-bat at a time."
