Blockbusters Win, 3-1, Versus Washington
|
Los Angeles starter Fernando Lopez pitched well against the Washington Eagles at Monument Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-1. Lopez, now 8-12, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Los Angeles goes to 59-78, Washington to 59-79.
Los Angeles needed the clutch hitting of Chuck Panetta to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Blockbusters on top, 3-1. For the game, Panetta had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Panetta told a Los Angeles Chronicle reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
