The St. Louis Explorers used a great performance from Jorge Gonzalez, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1970 draft, to beat the New York Knickerbockers, 1-0, at Knickerbocker Stadium. Gonzalez, now 13-9, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Picking up the save was Bernie Tate. He's now 17 for 17 in save chances.
St. Louis used the hitting of Freddie Boone to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Explorers on top, 1-0. For the game, Boone had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.

The defeat makes New York 68-70.
