Knickerbockers Win at Home, 5-2
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the St. Louis Explorers and New York Knickerbockers get after it.
New York parlayed a decent outing from starter Jack Forbes into a solid win over the St. Louis Explorers. The final score was 5-2. Forbes picked up the win for New York, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 11-10.
Ray Zink had a big 2-run home run for the Knickerbockers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a slider from Danny Prentice, who finished 4th in the ABL in innings pitched with 249.2 in 1970, and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Knickerbockers on top, 4-0.
"Jack was hitting his spots and everything had life," said New York manager Timothy Widholm.
With the win, New York raised its record to 74-64.
