Late Rally by Eagles Locks Up 5-3 Win
|
The Washington Eagles took Philadelphia pitcher Darrell Klug's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Monument Field. The final score had Washington getting past the Quakers, 5-3. Klug went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 3. Bobby Holec converted his 5th save in 5 tries. Washington is 64-77 and Philadelphia, with the loss, 81-57.
Washington took advantage of an error in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 3-3, when Bob Messinger hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Eagles in front, 4-3.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Messinger told the Washington Chronicle.
