Tom McAteer, who finished 3rd in the NBL in saves with 24 in 1968, imposed his will on the Burros from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the right-hander spearheaded the 5-1 Washington triumph. The 5th-place Eagles hiked their record to 65-74.

Washington used the hitting of Gary Long to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Eagles on top, 4-1. For the game, Long had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Thought I threw pretty well and overall I felt good," said McAteer.
