The Cincinnati Packers, behind a great outing from Scott Dubyak, who finished 3rd in the ABL in ERA with 2.46 in 1969, defeated the New York Knickerbockers, 3-1, at Knickerbocker Stadium. The winning pitcher was Dubyak, now 11-16. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. Roger Isaacs locked down his 5th save.
John Hembree had a direct impact on the outcome. Hembree contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Cincinnati up, 2-1.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Hembree. "You've got to get results."
The loss makes New York 68-72.
