Knickerbockers Earn Clutch Win, 10-9
|
Philadelphia left fielder Jeff Murchison had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 10-9, to New York at Knickerbocker Stadium. Murchison went 3-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 8 runs and scored twice. With the win, New York upped its record to 71-69.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for New York. That's when Jeff Madsen hit a solo home run off 27-year old right-handed pitcher Darrell Klug to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
"Walking a team off at the end -- there's no greater feeling," said Madsen.
