Emeralds Suffer 4-3 Road Loss
|
Larry Stanford, the 15th overall pick in the 1967 draft, was locked in. The left-hander led the New York Empires to a 4-3 win against the Seattle Emeralds at Queens Field. New York is now 78-62, while Seattle is 67-72.
Rick Lintner had a big solo home run for the Empires in the bottom of the fifth inning. With New York leading 3-2 and the bases empty, he sized up a changeup from Rob Banas, the 20th overall pick in the 1967 draft, and punished it. The result was his 22nd home run of the season, which put the Empires on top, 4-2.
"Larry's a gamer," said New York manager Dan Whiting. "Glad he's on our side."
