Industrials Defeat Packers, 5-4
|
The 5-4 Pittsburgh win over Cincinnati was due in large part to Bob Boyle. The Industrials center fielder went 3-6 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Pittsburgh reliever Bob Cole, now 3-2. The loser was Brian Alfieri. Pittsburgh goes to 91-49. The win puts them 10½ games up in their division.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 14th. With one out, Boyle hit a fastball from Brian Alfieri for a solo home run. The Industrials, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Vincent Wicker, the Pittsburgh manager.
