5-3 Loss Extends New York Skid
|
Mel Hartman, who finished 2nd in the NBL in ERA with 2.06 in 1968, propelled his team to victory over the New York Knickerbockers. The final score was 5-3, Philadelphia. Mark Garland closed the door for Philadelphia, picking up his 4th save of the year. This loss makes it 6 in a row for New York.
The Quakers got a big hit from second baseman Ron Paige. In the bottom of the sixth, Paige smacked a 2-run double off New York pitcher Ray Schifsky. It was his 6th double of the season. Suddenly, the Quakers were ahead, 3-2.
"I'm just trying to make sure I'm focused for each and every pitch," said Hartman.
