Hurons Get One-Run Win at Atlanta
|
The Toronto Hurons besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Atlanta second baseman Roberto Palacios by beating the Generals, 4-3, at Atlantic Station Field. Palacios went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Reliever Herman Gagne picked up the win. His record improves to 7-5. Ron Winder, who finished 4th in the NBL in ERA with 2.41 in 1972, took the loss. Steve Persenaire picked up the save, his 12th.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Don Jackson to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hurons on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Atlanta manager Philipe Yazzie said, following the tough loss.
With this game in the books, Toronto is 66-74, Atlanta 61-78.
