Empires Score Late, Upend Wolverines, 5-3
|
The New York Empires spoiled a good performance by Detroit right fielder Pete Morrison, bumping off Detroit, 5-3, at Wolverine Field. Morrison went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. New York has now won 4 games in a row.
Roger Hickey came through with a big-time hit for New York. The center fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"It was our day today," Hickey told the New York Chronicle. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
