Seagulls Cancel Hawks, 6-1
|
The San Francisco Seagulls got a marvelous performance from pitcher Pete Ragsdale. The right-hander kept the Chicago offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 6-1 San Francisco victory at Hyde Park Stadium. The winning pitcher was Ragsdale, now 11-7. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7. The Seagulls improved their record to 83-58 by beating Chicago.
San Francisco left fielder Rick Stafne contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a sinker to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 96th hit of the season and put the Seagulls ahead, 4-1.
"I like our mindset right now," said San Francisco manager Al Borie.
