Knickerbockers Win, 7-2, Over Philadelphia
|
New York Knickerbockers starter Sid Shafer hurled his team past the Philadelphia Quakers, 7-2. With the win, New York goes to 75-66, while the Quakers fall to 60-83.
Ron Freeman had a big run-scoring triple for the Knickerbockers in the top of the fifth inning. With New York leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from Arnold Jarry, who is a two-time All-Star, and swatted a triple to right. It was his 3rd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Knickerbockers ahead, 3-0.
"I like to lead by example," said Shafer. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
