Empires Prevail, 4-2, Over Atlanta
|
The New York Empires defeated the Atlanta Generals, 4-2, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. Buck DeFalco pulled his weight. The 16-year veteran was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Chuck Hinck notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 4 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Jack Pratt got the save, his 6th in 6 chances.
DeFalco had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a first pitch knuckle curve from Ray Seals, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Empires a 4-2 lead. It was the 11th home run of the year for DeFalco.
In postgame comments, DeFalco told the New York Chronicle: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
The Generals, at 77-65, have lost 4 straight games.
