Captains Pocket 5-3 Win Against Los Angeles
San Diego beat Los Angeles on the strength of starting pitcher Jeff Ferguson's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. Ed Payne came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. Jack DeWitt notched his 3rd save of the season.

Kent Schiffer, who is tied for 9th in the NBL in RBI with 10, aided the San Diego cause with a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the first baseman was 2 for 4 with a triple, while adding 3 RBI.

"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.

The Blockbusters, 7-8, continue their sluggish start to the 1977 campaign.
