Washington Upended by Cleveland, 5-2
|
1973 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Washington Eagles.
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 24-year old center fielder Mike Sunseri, the Cleveland Bobcats stopped the Washington Eagles, 5-2, in 9 innings. Rick Tomlinson got the win, improving to 8-9. He worked 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1.
With Cleveland leading 3-2 in the top of the eighth, Sunseri hit a 2-run single off Washington hurler David Rodriquez. It was the 65th hit of the season for Sunseri and put his team ahead, 5-2.
"It never gets old," said Sunseri. "Winning, that is."
With the win, Cleveland has a record of 74-71. Washington falls to 51-92.
