Drooping Captains Lose 10th Straight
|
San Diego got a valiant performance from pitcher Bret Weingartz, but it wasn't enough to beat the St. Louis Explorers. St. Louis won the game, 3-2. Weingartz threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Now 65-77, San Diego has lost 10 in a row.
St. Louis needed the clutch hitting of Bob Roberts to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Explorers on top, 3-2. For the game, Roberts had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"This was a tough loss," said San Diego manager Joe Mack. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
