Boone Stars as Explorers Top Captains, 7-1
|
Behind the hitting of Freddie Boone, the St. Louis Explorers stopped the San Diego Captains, 7-1. Boone was 4-4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Explorers. St. Louis starter Randy Birch was credited with the win after throwing 100 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 11-9. The losses continue to pile up for San Diego, which has now fallen 11 times in a row.
St. Louis took a 5-1 lead on Boone's 16th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Mark Pike in the top of the seventh, propelled St. Louis to the win.
"We're in a rut," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.
