A 5-RBI performance from the fan favorite Steve Wells helped the New York Knickerbockers beat the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 7-4. Danny Abril, the winning pitcher, is now 2-1. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, while fanning 4 and walking 2. Early on, the Knickerbockers, at 11-4, have excelled.
With New York leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Wells hit a 2-run single off Brooklyn hurler Bill Curry. It was the 18th hit of the season for Wells and put his team ahead, 4-1.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Wells told the New York Today. "Whatever it takes."
