Hurons Need Extra Innings to Top Terriers, 3-0
|
The Toronto Hurons picked up a win at Atlantic Avenue Grounds, downing the Boston Terriers, 3-0, in 10 innings. On the mound for Toronto was right-hander Bill John, who played a pivotal role in the win. John, now 6-5, was the winner. In 9.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 4, and allowing no runs. Dave Hamilton earned his 4th save in 7 chances.
Toronto used a timely hit from Pete Hambrick to get the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Hurons ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said John. "Successful pitchers do it."
With the win, Toronto has a record of 70-73. Boston falls to 66-77.
