The Atlanta Generals topped the New York Empires, 8-1, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. The standout performance belonged to Atlanta pitcher and Alvord, Texas, native George Palmer. The winning pitcher was Palmer, now 10-14. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4. The third-place Generals have a record of 78-65.
Atlanta went up, 3-1, on Roberto Palacios's 29th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Palacios hit in the top of the ninth, left New York pitcher Jack Pratt muttering to himself.
Palacios attributed the win to his team's "tenacity."
