Detroit Absorbs 2-1 Loss to New York
|
The New York Empires earned a close win over the Detroit Wolverines, thanks in part to Jack Neenan. The New York right-hander, who led the ABL in saves with 29 last year, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Neenan, now 9-7, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The win gives New York a season record of 77-67.
The Empires got a big at-bat from catcher Eddie Ellison. For the game, Ellison was 2-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 13th double of the season gave New York a 2-0 lead.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Neenan told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
