Don Johnson was a major factor in the 9-4 San Francisco win over Houston. The Seagulls first baseman went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Jerry Patrick picked up the win, improving his season record to 17-6. He struck out 4 in 7 innings. The second-place Seagulls improved to 83-61.

Jose Sosa had a big 2-run triple for the Seagulls in the bottom of the third inning. With San Francisco trailing 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Bill Switzer, who finished 4th in the ABL in saves with 20 in 1972, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 4th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Seagulls ahead, 3-2.

"I still think this team can play even better," Johnson told the San Francisco Daily News.
