Explorers Jolt Captains, 2-1, with Late Rally
|
The Explorers grabbed a win, 2-1, at Corps of Discovery Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from San Diego pitcher Mark Pike. Pike went 7.2 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner was St. Louis reliever Dick Lott, now 9-5. The loser was Rick Wisniewski. The win puts St. Louis at 53-91.
Roy Mizzell was the walk-off hero for St. Louis. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Explorers pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Mizzell attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
