Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Detroit Wolverines and New York Empires.

The Detroit Wolverines topped the New York Empires, 6-4, in American Baseball League action at Wolverine Field. The standout performance belonged to Detroit pitcher and León, Mexico, native Juan Rodriguez. Detroit, at 77-69, is 3½ games up in the American Baseball League Eastern Division.

Detroit third baseman Emil Wathen contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 67th hit of the season and put the Wolverines ahead, 6-1.

"Juan was throwing free and easy," said Detroit manager Alex Wobbema.
