Pates Pitches Captains to Shutout Victory
In an outstanding mound performance, San Diego Captains starter Len Pates fired a complete-game shutout against the St. Louis Explorers at San Diego Sporting Complex.

Pates was the key to the 4-0 San Diego win. The 28-year-old right-hander was in high spirits for much of the game, his mood largely unfazed by the 6 hits and 1 walk he allowed.

"6 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter, as long as it was a shutout."

To date this season, Pates is 7-13 with 29 starts and an ERA of 3.67 with 103 strikeouts in 198.2 innings.
