Drillers Win Squeaker, 7-6, Over Seagulls
|
The Houston Drillers topped the San Francisco Seagulls, 7-6, with first baseman Mike Wells playing a big role. Wells went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Drillers in the win. Rick McStay earned the save, his 6th in 8 tries. The American Baseball League Western Division-leading Drillers have a record of 86-60.
The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Wells delivered big-time for Houston, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Archie Sereni. The game-changing hit put the Drillers on top, 6-4.
Wells told a Houston Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
