Bickle Helps Empires Beat Generals, 7-0
|
The New York Empires defeated the Atlanta Generals by the score of 7-0, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Lowell Bickle. Bickle went 4-4 with 4 singles, while scoring 3 for the Empires on the day. Andy Humphrey, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with no runs on 6 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 7-2. The Empires improved to 82-63.
The Empires got a big at-bat from catcher Eddie Ellison. For the game, Ellison was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave New York a 2-0 lead.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Ellison told the New York Times. "It's as simple as that."
