Blockbusters Suffer 5-4 Road Loss
|
The San Diego Captains dealt the Los Angeles Blockbusters a 5-4 loss at San Diego Sporting Complex. Ron Roe was the star on offense. He was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times. John Espersen wrapped it up, recording his 8th save. With this game in the books, San Diego is 85-62, Los Angeles 64-83.
Earl Peters had a big 2-run home run for the Captains in the bottom of the first inning. With San Diego leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from Larry Messenger, who finished 5th in the NBL in wins with 17 in 1969, and punished it. The result was his 26th home run of the season, which put the Captains on top, 3-0.
Peters said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
