Industrials Suffer 3-0 Loss to New York
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the New York Knickerbockers and Pittsburgh Industrials.
New York registered a win at Knickerbocker Stadium by beating the Pittsburgh Industrials, 3-0. Pitcher Tim Fried was one reason why the Knickerbockers triumphed. The winner was Fried. He threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Marty Clark. Brian Williams locked down his 7th save.
The Industrials had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Knickerbockers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the three-time All-Star Ted Schlener came to the plate. Schlener hit a 2-run home run on a full count fastball from Pittsburgh hurler Marty Clark. It was Schlener's 17th home run of the year.
"Tim was hitting his spots and everything had life," said New York manager Sean Kelly.
At 72-75, New York is in 4th place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
