In a tight tilt between the Los Angeles Pobladores and the San Francisco Seagulls, Jim Arndt was the deciding factor. The Los Angeles right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Larry Seger earned the save for Los Angeles, his 9th. By defeating San Francisco, the third-place Pobladores improved to 78-69.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Tommy Vincent came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing San Francisco pitcher Mike Silver, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Los Angeles on top, 2-1.

"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Arndt. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
