Washington Downed, 7-3, by Industrials
|
Pittsburgh beat Washington on the strength of starting pitcher Gene Steinhauer's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 7-3. The National Baseball League Eastern Division-leading Industrials are 91-57.
Had Johnny Flakes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Flakes hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Industrials.
Steinhauer attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
