The New York Empires picked up a win at Queens Field, dropping the Montreal Habitants, 5-3. Jon Pierce, who finished 3rd in the ABL in ERA with 2.30 last year, was the difference-maker. Pierce, now 12-7, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. With the win, the Empires sit at 75-73.

New York got a clutch hit from Randy Colbourne. The pinch hitter launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a kill shot.

"Great to get the crowd on its feet," Colbourne said.
