Knickerbockers Score Late to Beat Bluebirds, 2-1
|
The New York Knickerbockers picked up a win at Flatbush Park, downing the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 2-1. On the mound for New York was right-hander Jack Forbes, who played a pivotal role in the win. The win belonged to Bruce Elsner in relief. His record improves to 8-1. Bill Keiser took the loss for Brooklyn. Jose Espinoza earned the save, his 2nd, for the Knickerbockers.
New York used a timely hit from Pedro Barrera to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 13th inning to put the Knickerbockers ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
In postgame remarks, Barrera said: "I'm proud of our guys, of their fight."
The win lifted the New York record to 80-68.
