Hickey Delivers Walk-Off Win for Empires
|
The Empires grabbed a win, 3-2, at Queens Field, overcoming a fine effort from Toronto pitcher Larry Haines. Haines went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Tom Duncan, now 1-1, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 1. The Empires, now 10-5, have been red hot.
Roger Hickey was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Empires center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It's what good teams do, find a way to win," said Hickey.
