Washington Wins, Long goes 3-for-4
|
The performance of Gary Long proved critical in helping Washington beat Brooklyn, 8-5. The Eagles shortstop went 3-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Bob Viola picked up the win, lifting his record to 11-4 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 1 in 6.1 innings, while yielding 2 runs. Washington now sports a record of 70-80.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Long hit a run-scoring single off Colin Hurley. It propelled the Eagles into the lead, 2-1.
"It's nice to see a lot of guys make contributions," said Eagles manager Wally Christensen.
