New York pitcher Jon Pierce had a large part in his team beating the Atlanta Generals, 4-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Jack Pratt, who is tied for 3rd in the ABL in saves with 21, picked up the win in relief. Mike Chernock took the loss for Atlanta. The win for the Empires lifted their record to 79-71.

The Empires got a clutch hit from pinch hitter Jerry Olsen. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Empires.

"Jon did a nice job," said Empires manager Dan Whiting.
