Empires Score Late, Clip Habitants, 7-6
|
Montreal right fielder Jim Compton had a good game, even if his team did not. The Habitants dropped a 7-6 decision to New York at Queens Field. Compton went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Jack Pratt closed it out for his 16th save. New York's record now stands at 84-64, placing them second in the American Baseball League Eastern Division.
New York took the lead, 7-6, on Miguel Preciado's 2nd home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off Montreal pitcher Erv Koenig in the bottom of the eighth.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Montreal manager Michel Alexandre Cauchon. "But we decided not to take it."
