Parker Helps St. Louis Cruise to 10-3 Win
|
At Independence Field, the Kansas City Bulls and St. Louis Explorers were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Getting offensive support from Gary Parker, the St. Louis Explorers topped the Kansas City Bulls, 10-3. Parker was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Explorers. At 68-83, St. Louis is in 6th place in the National Baseball League Western Division.
Dave Bieler had a big 2-run double for the Explorers in the top of the fifth inning. With St. Louis leading 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a sinker from Skip Carter, the 7th overall pick in the 1969 draft, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 26th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Explorers ahead, 4-1.
"We hit the ball hard," said St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood. "Line drive after line drive."
