Bluebirds Bash Bobcats, 11-1
|
The performance of Jackie Cooper proved critical in helping Brooklyn beat Cleveland, 11-1. The Bluebirds right fielder went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, while scoring 2 and driving in 5. Damon Rutherford got the win, improving to 8-16. He worked 9 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. The Bobcats have now dropped 5 straight.
With Brooklyn leading 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Cooper came up to bat against Cleveland pitcher Joe Hutto. Cooper hit a sinker to right-center for a bases-clearing double. His 13th double of the season put the Bluebirds on top, 11-0.
Afterward, Cleveland manager Daniel Mays said: "We've hit a rough patch."
