Explorers Bridle Eagles, 2-1
|
The St. Louis Explorers picked up a win at Corps of Discovery Stadium, courtesy of Marty Clark. The right-hander helped his team stop the Washington Eagles, 2-1. Bernie Tate converted his 23rd save in 29 tries. The triumph puts St. Louis at 83-67 for the season.
John Darnell, who led the NBL in triples with 19 in 1964, took Washington hurler Mark Campbell deep in the bottom of the third. His solo home run put the Explorers on top, 2-1. In all, Darnell had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Washington manager Brandon Tucker.
