The Houston Drillers did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Hawks, 4-3, at Sam Houston Field. Houston pitcher Francisco Castro, in particular, had a standout performance. Tom McAteer converted his 28th save in 39 tries. Chicago is in the throes of a losing streak which has reached 9 games.

Houston left fielder Randy Barnes contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 43rd hit of the season and put the Drillers ahead, 4-0.

"Sometimes, you can be too aggressive," said Chicago manager Mike Flaherty. "You need to let the game come to you."
