Ron Eubanks was a major factor in the 5-4 Brooklyn win over New York. The Bluebirds center fielder was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 3 times. Kevin Wade, the winning pitcher, improved to 14-8. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Dave Norman earned the save, his 30th in 36 tries.

Brooklyn right fielder Jackie Cooper contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a curveball to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 184th hit of the season and put the Bluebirds ahead, 2-1.

Brooklyn manager John Meeker praised his team's "businesslike approach."
