Packers Topple Eagles with Late Rally
The Cincinnati Packers had to overcome a big game from Washington right fielder Mike Lockhart to leave Monument Field with a victory. And they did, winning, 5-3. Lockhart was 3 for 3 with 3 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 times. Joe Clabaugh, who led the NBL in innings pitched with 275.2 in 1966, was the winner. He's now 16-12. The loser was Brian Alfieri. The 6th-place Packers go to 72-80.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Darrell Davis came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Washington pitcher Brian Alfieri, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 5-3.

"We did a lot of really good things and it was a good win," said Packers manager Martin Abresch.
